I am currently working as a Management Trainee at Piramal Capital and Housing Finance, and looking back, I can say with certainty that my time at DSGS shaped this journey in ways that go far beyond what a PGDM certificate represents on paper. I am immensely proud to be associated with DSGS, and the education and skills I built there have played a pivotal role in both my career and my personal growth.

A curriculum built for the real world

The academic rigour at DSGS was never just about theory. What set it apart was how deliberately it was combined with practical exposure, giving students like me a strong foundation to actually succeed in the business world rather than just understand it in the abstract. The faculty consistently demonstrated a high level of expertise and dedication to their fields, and their ability to blend theoretical knowledge with real-world insights helped me build a genuinely holistic understanding of business principles. Their support, guidance, and mentorship were instrumental throughout my time there and continue to influence how I approach my work today.

Learning by doing

One thing I have come to appreciate more with time is how much DSGS emphasised experiential learning. Case studies, group projects, and internships weren't add-ons to the syllabus, they were central to it. This hands-on approach pushed me to apply classroom concepts to real business scenarios, which in turn built the kind of critical thinking and problem-solving instincts that no lecture alone could have given me. It is one thing to study HR frameworks in a classroom; it is another to sit in a real organisation and watch those frameworks play out with real people and real stakes. That shift in perspective has stayed with me.

The strength of the DSGS network

As an alumna, I have also had the chance to engage with the wider DSGS alumni network, and this has proven to be genuinely invaluable. The alumni association offers a platform for continued learning, professional networking, and mentorship β€” and what strikes me most is how willing alumni are to give back and support current students. It says a lot about the kind of bond we share as part of the DSGS family, and I don't think I fully appreciated it until I was on the other side, building my own career.

A few thoughts on what could be even better

Reflecting on my experience, I do have a couple of suggestions I'd offer for the road ahead. I believe incorporating more hands-on projects, simulations, and workshops that mirror real-world business scenarios would help students bridge the gap between theory and practice even further. Similarly, creating more structured opportunities for students to work directly with industry professionals or take on consulting-style projects during their internships could meaningfully strengthen practical skills and industry readiness before students even step into their first job.

Why HR was the right specialisation for me

I am genuinely delighted with my decision to specialise in Human Resources. It gave me a deep understanding of people management while also equipping me with versatile, transferable skills that apply across industries, not just HR functions. Learning how HR decisions carry strategic weight, and how HR strategy needs to align with broader business objectives, has been one of the most valuable lessons of my time at DSGS. It also fuelled something I already cared about β€” working with people β€” and the networking and professional growth that came with it have been exceptional. I'm grateful for the education and support DSGS gave me, because it has genuinely paved the way for my journey in HR so far.

Still proud, still connected

As an alumna, I remain proud to be associated with DSGS, and I have no doubt it will continue to shape future business leaders just as effectively as it shaped mine.
